Born in Dunoon, I am a writer living in Prestwick, Ayrshire, Scotland. I enjoyed writing stories at school but then life took over. It wasn’t till I was 42 and my daughter was studying Higher English that I thought I’d like to have a go at it. Next year and the following I gained English and 3 other Highers. I went to university and graduated with a B.Ed(Hons) Degree. I rediscovered my love of writing at university then I joined Ayr Writers’ Club where I was encouraged to write for competitions in different genres. My preferences were poetry and children’s writing. My story ‘Witch Hitch’ won  the under 7’s category in the Scottish Association of Writers’ Competition in 2010. I have been awarded in poetry and children’s competitions and had a monologue accepted and transmitted on BBC Radio Scotland. As a member of Litereight I had stories and poetry published in their anthologies. in 2015 I  published ‘Witch Hitch’ along with illustrator Maggie Bolton. In 2016 I published ‘The Woo in the Wild Woods’ and ‘Tartan Witch’. I hope to continue writing stories that thrill and delight children and thought-provoking poetry.    Greta Yorke
